What Is Family Shield?

Family Shield is a child protection system that monitors the internet for unauthorized use of your children's images and provides age-appropriate verification tools that keep kids safe online without exposing them to identity verification systems designed for adults.

Children's photos are shared on social media, school websites, sports leagues, and family messaging groups. These images are increasingly scraped by AI training datasets, used in advertising without consent, and in the worst cases, exploited for child exploitation material. Family Shield provides continuous monitoring to detect when your child's likeness appears in unauthorized contexts.

Why Children Need Digital Protection

• The average child has 1,500 photos posted online before age 5 - shared by parents, grandparents, schools, and sports organizations. Each image is a potential attack surface.

How It Works

When to Activate Family Shield

• At birth - Digital protection should start before the first photo is posted. Set up monitoring proactively.
• When your child starts school - Schools, sports leagues, and extracurricular activities photograph children and post images on websites and social media. Monitoring catches unauthorized distribution.
• When your child gets their first device - The transition to online independence is when children are most vulnerable to identity theft and online exploitation.
• After a photo goes viral - If a photo of your child gains unexpected attention, monitoring becomes urgent to catch any exploitative reuse.
• When signing up for platforms - Use Family Shield's parental consent gateway instead of lying about your child's age or submitting their personal information.

Privacy for Children

Family Shield follows the same zero-data architecture as all POY products. Children's reference images are processed on the parent's device and stored as biometric hashes only. No children's photos are uploaded to any server. No children's biometric data is collected or stored anywhere. The monitoring system compares hashes - not images - ensuring that the protection system itself does not create a privacy risk.

When children reach the age of majority (configurable, default 18), Family Shield transitions control to them. They can choose to continue monitoring, set up their own PoY Identity, or opt out entirely. The parent's access to their monitoring data is revoked automatically.
