Trust Score
A 0-100 trust score built from 6 verification signals. Before you buy, sell, date, or hire - check their Trust Score. A credit score for online trust.
What Is Trust Score?
Trust Score is a 0-100 numerical rating that represents your verified trustworthiness on the internet. Think of it as a credit score for online trust - built not from financial data but from 6 independent verification signals that prove you are a real, unique human being with an established online presence.
Unlike platform-specific ratings (Uber stars, eBay feedback, Amazon reviews) that only reflect behavior on one platform and can be manipulated, Trust Score is built on cryptographic verification signals that cannot be faked. It is portable across every platform that integrates with POY Verify.
Why a Universal Trust Score Matters
Every day, people make high-stakes decisions based on online interactions with strangers:
- Buying from unknown sellers - Is this marketplace seller legitimate? A Trust Score above 70 means they have passed multiple verification layers.
- Hiring freelancers - Is this applicant a real human with genuine credentials? Or a bot farm operating dozens of accounts?
- Online dating - Is this profile a real person? A Trust Score verifies humanity and identity depth without revealing personal details.
- Business transactions - Is the person on the other side of this deal who they claim to be?
- Community moderation - Should this new member be trusted to post, or are they likely a troll or bot?
How Trust Score Is Calculated
Trust Score is built from the 6-signal trust ceiling system:
Biometric Liveness (+60)
On-device biometric verification. The foundation signal. Proves a real human is physically present.
Email Verification (+10)
Proves control of a real email address. Filters disposable email fraud.
Phone Verification (+10)
Proves control of a phone number. Stronger identity anchor than email.
Device Fingerprint (+10)
Hardware-bound identifier. Detects multi-account fraud from the same device.
Voice Print (+5)
Vocal biometric analysis. Adds an audio-based liveness layer.
Social Account (+5)
Links Twitter/X, LinkedIn, or GitHub. Connects public reputation to your credential.
Trust Score Dynamics
Trust Score is not static. It changes based on your activity:
- Trust decay - Scores decay by 0.05 points per day after 30 days of inactivity. This ensures scores reflect current verification, not historical checks.
- Content stamping boost - Each piece of content you stamp as human-made adds 0.1 to your score, reflecting ongoing authentic activity.
- Re-verification boost - Periodically re-verifying through the biometric check adds 0.5 to your score.
- Trust ceiling - Your score can never exceed the ceiling set by your verified signals. If you only have biometric verification (ceiling = 60), your score caps at 60 regardless of activity.
How Companies Use Trust Score
Platforms query Trust Score through the POY API and apply their own business logic:
- Score > 70 - High trust. Allow financial transactions, premium features, and reduced friction.
- Score 50-70 - Moderate trust. Allow posting, commenting, and standard features.
- Score 30-50 - Low trust. Allow browsing and viewing. Require additional verification for actions.
- Score < 30 - Minimal trust. New or unverified users. Apply maximum friction and monitoring.
The API returns the score, individual signal status, account age, and content stamp count in under 50ms - fast enough for real-time access decisions.
