Digital Will
Designate a verified heir for your digital identity and accounts. No lawyers needed. Cryptographic succession planning for your online life.
What Is Digital Will?
Digital Will is a cryptographic succession system that allows you to designate a verified heir for your digital identity, accounts, and content. When you can no longer manage your online presence - due to incapacitation, death, or extended absence - your designated heir can assume stewardship of your digital life without the legal complexity, cost, and delays of traditional estate planning.
Traditional digital estate planning is a mess. Most platforms have inconsistent policies for account succession. Facebook has a "Memorialization" process. Google has an Inactive Account Manager. Most other platforms have nothing. Families spend months or years trying to access a deceased loved one's accounts, often requiring court orders, death certificates, and legal representation for each individual platform.
Digital Will replaces this fragmented process with a single cryptographic mechanism that works across every platform integrated with POY Verify.
Why Digital Legacy Planning Matters
- The average person has 100+ online accounts - email, social media, financial services, subscriptions, cloud storage, crypto wallets. Each has its own succession policy (or none at all).
- $1.5 billion in cryptocurrency is estimated to be permanently inaccessible due to owners dying without sharing wallet access.
- Social media accounts of deceased users outnumber living users on some platforms - and without succession planning, these accounts can be hijacked for impersonation.
- Digital photos, videos, and messages have irreplaceable sentimental value - family memories locked behind passwords that no one else knows.
- Business accounts, intellectual property, and digital assets have real financial value that can be lost without proper succession.
How It Works
Designate an Heir
Choose a verified PoY user as your digital heir. They must have their own PoY Identity - ensuring the heir is a verified human being, not an impersonator.
Set Conditions
Configure activation conditions: inactivity period (e.g., 6 months without verification), manual activation by the heir with supporting documentation, or a combination.
Cryptographic Handoff
When conditions are met, a cryptographic key rotation transfers stewardship to the heir's PoY Identity. The heir can then manage your digital presence across integrated platforms.
Audit Trail
Every action taken by the heir is logged with their own PoY Identity. There is a clear, tamper-evident record of what was accessed, modified, or closed.
When to Set Up Digital Will
- Now - Digital succession should be set up proactively, not after a crisis. It takes 5 minutes.
- After major life events - Marriage, having children, starting a business, acquiring significant digital assets.
- When you hold cryptocurrency - Without succession planning, crypto wallets die with their owners.
- When you are a content creator - Your body of work, audience, and monetization channels have value that should not disappear.
- When you have business accounts - Company social media, domain names, and SaaS subscriptions need continuity.
No Lawyers Required
Traditional estate planning for digital assets requires a lawyer to draft specific provisions, which are then subject to platform-specific interpretations and legal challenges. Digital Will uses cryptographic mechanisms that execute automatically based on predetermined conditions, without requiring legal interpretation, court orders, or platform cooperation. The heir's access is granted through the same cryptographic infrastructure that secures the PoY Identity - not through legal documents that platforms may or may not honor.
