How the Secure Enclave Works

The Secure Enclave operates as a co-processor with several key properties:

• Physical isolation - Separate silicon from the main CPU with its own boot ROM and AES engine
• Encrypted memory - All data in the Secure Enclave's memory is encrypted with a device-unique key fused during manufacturing
• No direct access - The main processor cannot read Secure Enclave memory. Communication happens only through a tightly controlled mailbox mechanism
• Anti-tampering - Physical tampering attempts (decapping, probing) destroy the keys
